On International Women’s Day, Women Innovators Incubator participant Angella Kyomugisha will join leading African women in sharing their journeys and how they are working to provide real-life innovative solutions to Africa’s healthcare challenges.

The virtual event titled Women-led innovation in Africa: Achieving sustainable health and gender equality on the continent aims to demystify the notion that women have a limited role in innovation, celebrating the contribution made by women leaders, innovators, and creators to the development of societies and economies.

Join IFPMA, Speak Up Africa, and African women driving innovation and making advancements to achieve the SDGs on Tuesday, 08 March from 09:00-11:00 GMT / 10:00-12:00 CET.

With the highest female entrepreneurship rate globally, African women are leading change in ways that matter for their societies and communities. In Uganda, Angella leads Kaaro Health, a social enterprise driving healthcare access to the most remote areas through deploying telehealth-enabled container clinics managed by nurses on a lease to own basis. The enterprise also trains these nurses in financial and business management to sustainably operate these clinics.

Angella is among the millions of women entrepreneurs driving Africa’s progress towards good health and well-being, gender equality and other sustainable development goals (SDGs). And yet, the African Development Bank reports a US$42 billion financing gap between male and female entrepreneurs on the continent.

The underpinning argument is that, without the substantial and equal participation of women in policymaking, business and innovation, it will be impossible to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Throughout the event, the leading women will explore answers to questions: What are the key challenges these women have overcome in their journeys? What challenges have changed over time, and which remain the same? How can female entrepreneurs be best supported, and how can they support each other? How do we overcome the gender innovation gap and uplift women in innovation not just on International Women’s Day but every day?

The virtual discussion is part of Speak Up Africa’s broader African LeadHERS Forum. The platform supports the inclusion of women and girls on public platforms and in leadership to encourage women and girls in all their diversity to participate in decision making spaces for improved public health significantly.
