Luca Deplano, Associate Manager, Innovation and Access Policy at IFPMA had an exclusive chat about the Africa Young Innovators for Health Award on a youth-focused radio programme “Beyond the Frontiers” on Cameroon Radio Television.

In this exclusive interview with Regobert Yuh (programme host), Luca Deplano speaks to what the award seeks to do – support young African entrepreneurs across the continent with their pioneering healthcare solutions. Solutions to support, equip and train healthcare workers.

According to Luca Deplano, the Award’s focus on healthcare workers is a result of the increasingly challenging circumstances healthcare workers face on the frontline of the global pandemic. Not least due to increasing pressure on already strained healthcare services. In Africa, Luca Deplano points out that Africa accounts for nearly a quarter of the global disease burden but only 3% of the global health workforce. Therefore, focusing on solutions to support their incredible work was the obvious focus for the Awards.

“Beyond the Frontiers” programme focuses on issues affecting young people in the areas of governance, politics, sports, health. It is a weekly programme aired on Cameroon’s public broadcaster, Cameroon Radio Television.
