ABOUT THE AWiDH INITIATIVE

The African Union’s Digital Transformation Strategy has set a goal of digital inclusion, including digital health, for every African by 2030. Achieving this goal requires concerted efforts to remove barriers for African women and girls, enabling their full participation in the digital economy and fostering technology-oriented entrepreneurship.

The African Women in Digital Health (AWiDH) initiative, a flagship of the Africa CDC Digital Transformation Strategy co-chaired by Speak Up Africa, aims to address the digital health gender gap by creating a community platform that brings together stakeholders working on health and gender issues to collaborate on actions for meaningful engagement and leadership of women in digital health.

The initiative relies on three strategic objectives:

  • Capacity strengthening: Increasing skill sets by addressing digital capacity-building needs for women to build a strong pipeline of talent.
  • Enabling environment: Supporting the enabling environment for women’s entrepreneurship in digital health.
  • Investment: Ensuring adequate investment for women entrepreneurs in the tech digital health space.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT

For this assignment, the consultant will strengthen the capacity of Africa CDC staff to effectively integrate gender perspectives into their work by providing practical tools, methodologies, and training to address gender disparities based on Africa CDC needs. Specifically, the consultant will:

  1. Design a structured and context-specific training program aimed at strengthening the capacity of Africa CDC staff to integrate gender-sensitive approaches into their work.
  2. Facilitate two in-person training sessions at the Africa CDC headquarters, targeting different departments.
  3. Develop and administer surveys before and after the training sessions to measure their effectiveness, gather participant feedback, and identify areas for improvement.
  4. Compile a final report summarizing the training sessions, survey findings, key outcomes, and actionable recommendations for future capacity-building efforts.

DELIVERABLES

The contract is anticipated to be executed over a period of six (6) months with the following deliverables:

  • A tailored curriculum on gender mainstreaming in English and French.
  • Two (2) training sessions in Addis Ababa.
  • Pre- and post-training surveys.
  • A comprehensive final report.

PROFILE OF THE CONSULTANT

  • At least ten (10) years of experience in Gender studies, digital health, public health, public policy, sustainable development, or other relevant fields in Africa.
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering engaging, interactive, and participatory training sessions for adult learners.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills in French and English.
